How we made an impact in 2016

I’d never heard somebody so excited on the phone before. She shrieked as I told her that she would be joining Vans Warped Tour founder, Kevin Lyman, on his bus for a few days during the summer. Although this was a dream come true for Lanna, a passionate music fan looking for a career into the music industry, the circumstances surrounding this experience weren’t so rosy.

You see in November 2015, whilst driving outside of El Paso, TX, The Ghost Inside’s tour bus collided head on with an 18 wheeler truck. A horrific accident, with unfortunately neither driver making it, and the band and crew left in an intense critical condition.

Before the accident, Kevin Lyman had plans for The Ghost Inside to be on the 2016 Vans Warped Tour but due to the accident the band were no longer able to play. As Kevin does, he rallied the community together to do a charity auction, getting bands such as Blink 182 and Rancid to donate collectibles with the goal being to raise the money they would’ve been paid in fees had they been on the tour.

This is where Loqules comes in. Together with Kevin and the Vans Warped Tour, we created an incredible experience for two people to travel on Kevin’s bus for a few days, be part of his crew and really get a taste of the tour. We priced it at a few thousand dollars and as soon as it went live, our servers got the biggest hit in our short history and we had hundreds of people wanting this once in a lifetime opportunity – 100% of proceeds going to aid in The Ghost Inside’s recovery.

Lanna Krokorian, an 18 year old from Boston was looking for a way to help her favourite band The Ghost Inside and successfully purchased the experience. We followed Lanna around during her experience and created this video to tell her story.

This is just one of many #DoGood stories we’ve been part of in 2016, so we decided that with the non-profits and community organisations we worked with this year we would produce our first #DoGood Impact Report.

The full report is available here but here’s a snapshot of what we did. Although this may seem like a drop in the ocean for the great philanthropic work being done on a grander scale, we’re stoked that our mission to improve people’s lives through experiences is being realised – because at the end of the day, we should all #DoGood.
